Reading together

Making room for reading together

A few gentle ways to make shared reading feel like a welcome part of the day.

Reading together does not need a perfect plan. It can begin with a few quiet minutes, a comfortable place, and a story that gives everyone something to wonder about.

Let the child choose sometimes. A familiar story read again and again can be just as valuable as a new one. Repetition gives children room to notice details, remember language, and join in with the telling.

Pause when a picture or sentence catches your attention. Ask what might happen next, what a character could be feeling, or which part your reader would like to visit again. The conversation is part of the reading.

Most of all, let the moment stay warm. A shared story is not a test. It is a small way of saying: there is time for you, and there is room for your imagination here.

A note is always welcome

Every conversation starts
with a little hello.
